The Role & The Team
We are seeking an exceptional Director of Research and Development to lead our R&D efforts, based in Beverly MA. This group develops new product concepts, new ways of using the Adeptrix platform and optimizes the company’s core proteomics platform.
The Director of R&D will have a proven track record of accomplishments in academia or in the life sciences/pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry. The successful candidate is likely to have a background in proteomics and serum biology with 5+ years of experience in developing assays and other molecular biology techniques. She or he will report directly to the CEO and will be involved in shaping company objectives and will lead the R&D effort to achieve those objectives.
Responsibilities & Goals
The R&D group is focused on the design, development and implementation of novel proteomic assays. Areas of specific responsibility include:
- Manage all aspects of R&D at Adeptrix including assay research, assay optimization, protocol development, sample analysis and data analysis.
- Lead development of novel protein assay platform, including proteomic assays, immunoassays and mass spectrometry based protein detection assays.
- Oversee analysis and synthesis of complex data and management of bioinformatic resources.
- Present to scientific and lay audiences inside and outside of Adeptrix including scientific collaborators, customers and investors.
- Lead creation of appropriate documentation and development of SOPs to enable assay standardization and deployment.
- Stay abreast of latest literature and technology development in the field
- Travel to scientific conferences.
Background & Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a demonstrated record of accomplishments in academia and the life sciences industry. The ideal candidate will have had significant experience leading research and development of assays in a commercial setting. Candidates must bring independence, strong critical thinking skills, an entrepreneur approach and a “team first” mentality.
Key requirements include:
- PhD (or equivalent) in relevant discipline such as proteomics, molecular biology or biochemistry
- 5+ years developing assays in a commercial organization
- Experience independently managing a scientific team and achieving ambitious goals.
- Extensive experience taking assays or products from concept to commercialization, preferably including experience with multiplexed immunoassays
- Experience in working with serum, cells, tissues or other types of biological samples
- Experience with industry best practices and standards for product R&D.
- Experience managing bioinformaticians and overseeing complex data analysis
- Experience with mass spectrometry and proteomic research is highly desirable
- Strong written and oral communications skills, with demonstrated experience in cross-functional teams.
- Ability to independently and collaboratively lead a team, while meeting scheduled deadlines
- Experience implementing assay project management and research organizational tools.
